THREE HUGE PUNK BOOKS OF RARE MATERIAL

Three enormous 700+ page Punk Image books are now available to complete my Punk archive, which contain contact details if you also wish to buy actual prints. Same deal as before, you need to register at the lulu site before purchasing and don’t use their express service as the postal chargers are too high. If based in the UK or US stick with the standard inland delivery and outside the UK or US just use the ‘economy’ service.

It's over. [Jul. 17th, 2009|12:54 pm]

Goodbye my little rainbow.

I'm going to tell you a story, and although, like all good stories, there are some sad parts, it is a happy story. You have to trust me.

There was a cat. She was desperate and doomed, as were her children. One day she was kidnapped and her children taken away. The catmother never got over this, but she lived warm and clean and well fed and was no longer desperate nor doomed, though she was always a bit sad and a bit afraid. One day she died, but her children, far from desperate, far from doomed lived wonderful, beautiful lives because she had found for them everything a catmother could ever hope to give her children, and much more.

Hofstede's Framework for Assessing Culture [Jul. 17th, 2009|02:38 pm]

weirdsteve

While doing some e-learning about culture in business using Hofstede's framework, the result of a test question answered:

Now while all this is nice and everything, and I am all in favour, from what I have learned is that any company with high masculinity will just say bollocks to all that and do what they like.  So, the question is, do we pay people to come up with these frameworks for fun, or actually listen to them?  Usually it is a case of the individual making up their own mind on a sample dataset of one (their own experience), in preference to years of research and considered peer review on the matter.

And don't get me started on speeding...

Some of them do sparkle.... [Jul. 17th, 2009|06:24 am]

[Current Mood | thankful]

You people are great, shining beams of light. Yesterday I got a surprised email from City Kitties their email box was flooded, in the last 24 hours, more than $600 has poured in. Check out Ike, the first kitty you all helped because of YOU he was able to get medical treatment and is now looking for a home. Ike loves people and has a chance at a wonderful life with a wonderful person. Thank YOU.

As if she knew our time was limited, Momcat slept in the bed with us Wednesday night -- taking over Trillian's pillow and dividing the bed exactly in half-- one half for her, the other for us -- we were welcome to stay with her as long as that line was not crossed. We squeezed in and she stayed there the whole night. Yesterday morning she investigated the New Favorite Cat Spot on Earth: the newly screened in porch. I figured that was probably about the best place for her to be, so she spent last night out there, hanging with Roswell and eating canned food. We moved a litter box out there (which [info]trillian_stars noted that she was spending a lot of time sitting in -- typical momcat.)

I've been spending some time out there working -- she doesn't seem to mind if I'm out there, as long as I promise not to get too close.

We're waiting for the vet to call back. If her last day on Earth is spent on the porch, sniffing the air and watching the birds, then she's spent it in the way all the other cats in the house would choose to.

You people make me proud. Thank you. I'm reminded of the last scene in Camelot....

“One of what we all are, Pelly. Less than a drop in the great blue motion of the sunlit sea. But it seems that some of the drops sparkle, Pelly. Some of them do sparkle!"

You sparkle.

We'll be previewing the new live line up and in many ways this is a warm up for summer darkness for us. James in particular wanted to get onstage in his new role prior to a big festival so here we go.

We'll be reviving a couple of oldies and introducing one or two newies including our cover version of "Fight the power" by Public enemy.

Check that line up tho ;)

On a personal note I'll be along to this a bit later....I'm part of the stage show for AlterRed,supporting KMFDM, first. I am 'The Mechanic' (a role, this doesn't mean I have to fix the keyboards if they break down) guess I'll be catching up with a number of you either here or there.

Dingwalls last night [Jul. 17th, 2009|12:18 pm]

morbidfrog
[Current Music |Rome Burns - Non Specific Ghost Story | Powered by Last.fm]

Last night was one of those so enjoyable gig evening when it is full of friends on stage and in the crowd, in one of my favourite venue (with many viewing points and levels)  and only 2 mins from home.
Evening started with noodles and catching up with [info]noughat , [info]vulcanita  and [info]spidosaur …

Got to Dingwalls just in time to see ADORATION which did another splendid show. I love the full line of friends on one stage... It was fab that once again the venue was super packed and everyone was there in time to support them.

RAGGEDY ANGRY, never heard of them, but actually quite catchy, still not sure if to take too seriously or not, as they did look like a baby MM look-alike band but a fun metal bouncy bleepy eclectic set from cover of Coolio to Nightmare before Christmas…but utterly entertaining and full of energy.  Anyone who does This is Halloween get brownie points from me…

It really got melting hot during the funtastic happy bouncy  BIRTHDAY MASSACRE so ended up watching their set from various viewpoints, retrieving to the cooler back in the end …

To say it was downpour at the night ended it putting it mildly…might not live far but got quite a soaking…

Pretty in Pink [Jul. 17th, 2009|08:47 am]

cassandra_7
Meant to post this last night, but apparently the storms knocked the phone out.

20+ years on, Pretty in Pink is just as awesome as I remember.  Yeah, it's a bit dated, but the performances are still stunningly good, and now, older, I can see even more clearly how very awesome the character of Iona (Annie Potts) is.  And Duckie is still heartwrenchingly adorable.

For the record, the big songs I missed from my list of "awesome songs from the soundtrack" were:
(from memory, forgive slight errors in spelling or names)

Wouldn't it be Good - performed by the Danny Hutton Hitters
Round, Round by Belouis Some
and (and I'm ashamed I forgot this one!)
Shell Shocked by New Order

For those who weren't there when I was trying to name them all, the one's I successfully listed were:
Pretty in Pink - Psychodelic Furs
Please Please Please (etc) by the Smiths
Bring on the Dancing Horses by Echo and the Bunnymen
Do wot you do by INXS
Left of Center by Suzanne Vega
and, of course,
If you Leave by OMD.

Interestingly, that's the entire Soundtrack CD (I just looked it up) save this song, which apparently I don't think is quite as good as the rest of the album.
3. Get to Know Ya - Jesse Johnson

Lizzie, you really MUST come over to see this movie.
