| suicidal elephants |

Random thought: recently Riona made me think about Derren Brown stealing peoples' hearts. A few minutes ago I suddenly remembered there is a reference to Loki consuming a woman's heart... somewhere or other. All right so this doesn't exactly match but it's only a drawing. In conclusion: some day I really will have to write this Derren Brown is actually Loki thing won't I?
Cold germs = weird dreams
Yesterday I dreamt about an elephant committing suicide. it was actually a shapeshifter turned into an elephant, but they were still in elephant form when they walked off the edge of some balcony or platform. The result was... messy. Dean Winchester was in it too, chasing the shapeshifter, but it wasn't because of him the elephant killed itself. It was just a very emo-elephant
This morning I was having a strange and epic dream about Grigori and Koschei trying to find a missing child who had been taken, well, for dodgy things (well I didn't say it was a nice dream. thankfully, my dream did not dwell on this part) by his uncle and his uncle's boyfriend. For some reason firstly Grigori and Koschei conned their way into the house of a retired couple. I'm sure Grigori said something about they had come to inspect the boiler. heh (oddly, that's more old vampire folklore isn't it? Having to be invited in. Yet I don't use that in my writing). Koschei made frost appear on one of the windows of the house. I have no idea why he was doing that. Then they were trying to track down a particular car owned by the uncle. Grigori flirted with a bunch of (male and female) teenagers and found out some useful information. I'm sure I recognise the city where most of this happened but I can't think where it is. Unless it's one of those cities that only exist in my dreams. They ended up in this strange house with a little courtyard that was full of dog crap and pools of water gone completely stagnant with things drowned in them. There was a golden retriever that they rescued. Then there was some big fight. Grigori killed the uncle by somehow (I don't understand this part) balancing him on the tip of his sword and when he got him perfectly balanced, the man snapped in half and just died. Koschei sneaked up and stabbed the other guy through the head I think. Oddly, I don't know what happened to the child. I think this was supposedly in France but bits of it looked more like the Yorkshire moors or somewhere like that when Grigori and Koschei were driving after this other car. My dreams are very bizarre sometimes. |

On yahoo news just now: "We last had a white Christmas in 2004 - what are the chances of us having one this year?"
Um, no we bloody didn't. Some people in the UK did (I think pretty much every one I know did) and officially 'we' did because isn't the way that's measured for the bookies mean that 1 single snowflake has to fall on wherever they measure it? Which is meaningless in any real sense. But where I live there hasn't been a white christmas in something like 25 years. They actually said on the local news last year how long it had been (and no, we didn't get one last year either). My mum remembers snow on christmas eve at the house where we lived before this one (and an ambulance ending up in the front garden) and I only lived there til I was about 3. There's never been one here. Therefore I don't even remember a single white christmas. :(
I *think* it was 2000 we had snow about a week after christmas but even that wasn't heavy and it just froze into solid ice for days anyway (then my parents decided it would be good to go out on new years eve to the pub up the road (which was demolished soon after supposedly to build flats on the site only the planning for that has gone tits up or something but because of that, the place had just been allowed to go rapidly downhill), meaning walking about half a mile there over sheet ice, on a hill. Then the pub didn't open for over half an hour and we ended up having to stand there in the freezing cold talking to some dodgy guy who claimed to be homeless but I think was probably just trying to con money out of us. Then when it did open, there was no one else in and they kept playing this godawful christmas album which was christmas songs sung in a pop style but every one cut off half way through, I assume it was some cheapo copyright-free thing they found in the reduced bin of a pound store. Then we had to walk back again. Not fun). |

Does anyone else feel that a huge part of the London landscape is missing when they find themselves at the junction of Oxford St & TCR? |

| banks are cunts, nobody is surprised. |
[Nov. 27th, 2009|05:38 pm] |
Just got some info out of the chirpy, helpful indian chap handling my bank's calls, then after he's answered my question I knew immediately that he was going to try to sell me something.
Didn't ask me if that was OK, but instead said that he had one final piece of pertinent information for me that would definitely help me with the problem i'd been having, and would it be alright to talk to me about that?
In my experience, they only need to ask you permission to continue when they're selling you something, but he was so carefully evasive about saying it was a product that I let him start talking just to be sure I wasn't actually just fucking off some useful information.
Then he gets into telling me how I've had an account with them for 15 years (good reason not to fucking irritate the customer, maybe?) but that I only have a basic current account. Ahhhhhhh, here we go.
Then he tells me that because of this, the rate on my overdraft is their maximum of a whopping 19.9%!
I'm not very on the ball and forget the difference between APR and AER/EAR, so I query this and say "but that sounds like credit card rates, that can't be right", and he heavily belabours that he has the figures right and reiterates this horrible 19.9% I'm paying... His tone of voice has changed from happy and friendly to maybe what he thinks is authoritative and intimidating. I assume the point is to make me think "SHIT! I'm pissing money! Sell me your product, oh bank-meister!"
So I hung up on him.
Quickly googled it and went "oh yeah, so that's 1.6% equivalent monthly compared to APR, sounds about right" (I mean, I knew something was wrong because I know what I pay in interest on my credit cards and I know how much goes out for interest on my overdraft, and there's a world of fucking difference). Good good.
Cheers for the blarney, Barclays. No, i don't want any more financial products off you, much obliged. |

I'm getting old. i keep picking up bargains at the shop, y'know, the odd CD or DVD, and then realising I already own it. with 1000+ CDs and about 200 DVDs it's no surprise, but still, duh.
i've neglected LJ, but that's a familiar hymn round here.
My new work is entertaining. It's shit in that I'm working 4 days and being paid for 3, but I've made it clear that this will not be tolerated. Other than that, I like it a lot. it's the same but different. I started organising the end show today, dropping in on old buddy Chris Darkfire at the Guildhall and loving the fact that there's a tiny Old Boys' network developing. Some new exciting work on the horizon too. Ask me about this over a pint. |

The way my writing happens lately is so weird. I get a blockage on it until the middle of the night. Then weird shit starts to pour out. I'm currently writing Morpheus, the next part of the Victorian storyline. It's getting close to being done now. I think it's pretty odd. Not helped, I suppose, by the fact that elements are taken from my OF stories Tenebrae and Lux and I think Lux is the darkest thing I've ever written (even I'm creeped out by some of the stuff in that, though at least I haven't put Marius in the crossover fic). |

| DO THIS NOW. |
[Nov. 27th, 2009|01:55 pm] |
GO HERE
Enjoy the surreality of men in white jumpsuits inflating spacehoppers for you.
Then realise that they have a video wall and a panel on the website broadcasting any Tweets containing the hashtag #pumpt.
Then notice that they have no swear filters, or indeed any filters.
They just have a guy who resets the screen every time someone says something offensive.
GO WILD, GO CRAZY, MY LITTLE ONES. |
